In February every year Icelandic student dresses up in costume.  This day is called Öskudagur (Ash Wednesday).  It is a tradition from Europe to celebrate before fast days in Catholic religion.  Established church in Iceland is now Evangelist Luther and every citizen can participate if they choose.   This tradition has change from the middle ages and to day Children sing for candies and the school day is unconventional.
