We have been thinking about our environment and how we can inprove it.  Students have very good ideas about it and next school year we will implement the best idea. Younger students learned how important it is to have unpolluted sea.

Icelandic students have done some assignments on Tobacco Control and the hazards of smoking and drug. They did a mural and presentation transferred to the other students. It was very successful and good work.

The Icelandic students have now held fundraising to support families in need before Christmas. Bingo was held in the school and lot of people in our neighborhood attended.  Our students gave the money to the church because in Iceland people in need can ask the church for help.

Loft Cakes

500 g powdered sugar
2 ¾ tbsp cocoa powder
1 teaspoon hjartarsalt
1 egg

Method:
Mix together dry ingredients, place the egg together and knead. Put the dough in the air grinders cake offset (down smooth and fluted top) or just roll into narrow strips and slice them about 5 inches long.
Bake the cakes in the middle of the oven at 200 ° C for 10-12 minutes, or until the lift

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour

Method:

Margarine, sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla. Swished light .. Mix dry ingredients and stir gently out gradually. Put dough with a good basis on a plate with baking paper, use a teaspoon. Bake cookies at 170-200 degrees for 5-10 minutes.

Playground around Víðistaðaskóli

Happy new year to all of you from Iceland. We look forward to the new year and the next visit in March.

Students raise funds

The oldest students (10th grade) at Víðistaðaskóli hold bingo to raise funds for those who have little money. The church, Hafnarfjarðarkirkja, will give the money to those who are in need before Christmas. Bingo was well attended and gathered a good amount.

Practice running

This month our student took some time from the books to practice running.  It is an annual event and the goal is to encourage students to practice running and enhanced outdoor activities and exercise. We are also introducing and explaining to our students the need to try on their body’s. Greetings from Iceland

In February every year Icelandic student dresses up in costume.  This day is called Öskudagur (Ash Wednesday).  It is a tradition from Europe to celebrate before fast days in Catholic religion.  Established church in Iceland is now Evangelist Luther and every citizen can participate if they choose.   This tradition has change from the middle ages and to day Children sing for candies and the school day is unconventional.
